  • Prasanna Sahu of Bachuripada village accidentally received two shots of vaccine at Khuntapur vaccination centre under Betnoti Community Health Centre

In a serious case of gross negligence that would raise question over the sincerity in the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination drive in Odisha, a man in Mayurbhanj district was allegedly administered two doses of vaccine on the same day within a gap of 5 minutes.

Currently, two doses of Covishield are being administered at an interval of 12-16 weeks (84 days) while the gap between the two doses of Covaxin has been fixed at least four weeks.

Prasanna Sahu of Bachuripada village accidentally received two shots of vaccine at Khuntapur vaccination centre under Betnoti Community Health Centre.

According to Sahu, the nursing staff who administered him with first dose of vaccine asked him to wait for a few minutes after the inoculation and went to bring some documents. Soon, another health worker came and administered another jab.

“I told the nurse that I have taken the vaccine. However, by that time she had already administered me with the second dose,” said Sahu.

Asked whether he was feeling OK,  Sahu said, “I was working in the field today and sweating profusely and my head was also reeling. Therefore, I stopped working and returned home,” he said.

Dr Sipun Kumar Panda, Betnoti Community Health Centre in-charge said, “I heard about the incident. However, the veracity of the incident can be ascertained only after a formal probe is conducted.”
