Balasore: BJP leaders and activists created ruckus at a mass vaccination site in Balasore town moments before the inauguration of the much awaited programme on Monday.

As per reports, the BJP supporters snapped the ribbon meant to be cut to kick off the drive and got into an argument with the officials present after they found the posters and banners of Prime Minister Narendra Modi missing at the site, though those of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik were prominently displayed.

The angry party workers sought answers for the absence of Modi's posters given the fact that the Prime Minister had ensured the supply of the vaccines to all  states free of cost to carry out the mass inoculation drive.

The party members, who got into a verbal duel with the government officials present at the centre, also put up a stand-alone photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi inside the vaccination site.

According to reports, elaborate arrangements were made for the launch of the mass programme at Gandhi Smruti Bhawan in the town. Senior Health and administrative officials including the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Additional District Magistrate (ADM) and others were present for the inauguration. The BJP had also opened a Help Desk outside the centre to assist the beneficiaries.

However, the party workers later found a LED screen running speeches of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik alongside his posters and banners inside the vaccination hall while there was not a single photo of the Prime Minister..

Following the uproar, the district administration cancelled the inauguration programme and normalised the inoculation drive with people receiving the jab.
