The Covid-19 death toll in Odisha breached 8,000-mark as the State Government announced 53 fatalities on Wednesday. The State also reported 719 fresh positive cases in the last 24 hours.

The State Health and Family Welfare Department said that the fatalities from 13 out of 30 districts took the death toll to 8,022. The highest 19 deaths were reported from Khordha followed by six each from Keonjhar and Jagatsinghpur, two from Kendrapara and one each from Nayagarh, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Bolangir and Angul districts.

With 1,459 deaths so far, Khordha district has reported the highest fatalities due to Coronavirus in the State. Khordha was followed by Cuttack (807), Sundargarh (572), Ganjam (469), Puri (440), Angul (375), Bargarh (334) and Mayurbhanj (272).

On the other hand, the Covid-19 positive tally in Odisha surged to 10,08,469 with the detection of 719 cases, including 125 children below 18 years of age, in the last 24 hours. 

Khordha topped the list with 259 fresh cases in the last 24 hours followed by Cuttack (89), Balasore (43), Mayurbhanj (30), Kendrapara (28), Jajpur (27), Jagatsinghpur (23), Bhadrak (19),  Sundargarh (19), Angul (18), Dhenkanal (14), Puri (14), Keonjhar (13), Sambalpur (12) and Nayagarh (11), revealed a data by State Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

Other districts which reported less than 10 cases are- Deogarh (9), Boudh (6), Ganjam (5), Kandhamal (4), Bolangir (3),  Koraput (3), Kalahandi (3), Malkangiri (2), Jharsuguda (2), Sonepur (2), Rayagada (2), Bargarh (1) and Nabarangpur (1). Gajapati and Nuapada districts reported nil cases.

A total of 64, 656 samples were tested in the State in the last 24 hours while 1,81,34,288 samples have been tested so far. The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) for the day stood at 1.11%.

The active cases stood at 7,159 and 9,93,235, including 762 persons on Tuesday have recuperated from the disease so far.
