Pranaya, younger brother of late BJD MLA Pradeep Maharathy, died due to Covid-19 complications on Sunday morning.
The 64-year-old Pranaya Maharathy was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after he tested positive for coronavirus infection.
Pranaya succumbed to the virus today morning, informed his son Sakya Pratap Maharathy.
Earlier, Pradeep Maharathy had died on October 4 last year. The BJD strongman had tested positive for the virus on September 14, 2021 and was admitted to a designated COVID Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
He was subsequently discharged after he tested negative for the virus after a few days. However, he was again admitted to SUM after develoing post Covid-19 complications due to other underlying diseases. As his condition deteriorated, he was put on ventilator support but could not be saved.
Raghunath Mohapatra (78), a former Rajya Sabha member who was conferred with Padma Vibhushan and an eminent sculptor, died at Bhubaneswar AIIMS on May 9 while undergoing treatment for Covid-19.
Raghunath's younger son, Prasanta Mohapatra (47), who was also a former captain of Odisha’s cricket team and a match referee for the Board of Control for Cricket in India, succumbed to the infection at AIIMS on May 19, 2021.
The sculptor's eldest son Jashobanta Mohapatra, who was carrying the family’s lineage in stone carving forward, also died of Covid-19 at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar the next day.
