Amid the present spike in Covid-19 pandemic in Odisha, an Under Graduate hostel of Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital in Balasore was declared a containment zone for a week on Tuesday after 15 students tested positive for Covid-19.

As per reports, the infected students have been kept under isolation and necessary medical assistance is being provided to them by the district administration. All the students of the hostel will undergo RT-PCR test and the sanitisation process of the college premises will be conducted today. 

Earlier a day before, as many as 49 students at the MITS Engineering college in Rayagada had tested positive for the virus. Following the detection of the cases, the Rayagada district administration declared the college’s Hostel A and B as micro containment zones and sealed the premises.

Meanwhile, Odisha reported 7,071 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday taking the active case load in the State to 27,216. This is the highest single-day Covid-19 spike in 2022. With the spike, the positivity rate jumped to 10.2 per cent and 707 children were among those found positive in the past 24 hours.
