Odisha on Tuesday reported 7,071 new Covid-19 cases, taking the active case load in the State to 27,216.

Out of the 7,071 cases, 4,128 were detected in quarantine while 2,943 are local contact cases, according to the State Information and Public Relations Department.  

It may be noted that this is the highest single-day Covid-19 spike in 2022. With the spike, the positivity rate jumped to 10.2 per cent.and 707 children were among those found positive in the past 24 hours.

As per the I & PR Department, Khordha district reported maximum 2226 cases, followed by Sundergarh (1147), Sambalpur (609), and Cuttack (505).

Other districts which recorded Covid-19 cases in three digits in the past 24 hours are Mayurbhanj (201), Balasore (198), Bolangir (190), Puri(156), Jharsuguda (143), Jajpur (130) Ganjam (111) and Koraput (107).

Districts that reported less than 100 cases are- Nabarangpur (95), Bargarh (85), Angul (83), Kalahandi (73), Sonepur (61), Jagatsinghpur (60), Keonjhar (65), Dhenkanal (55), Bhadrak (54), Gajapati (45), Rayagada (36), Nayagarh (35),  Kendrapara (27), Nuapada (26), Boudh (20), Deogarh (18), Kandhamal (18),  Malkangiri (6), and State Pool (486).

With this, the Covid-19 positive tally in the State has surged to 10,82,769 while 10,47,031 people have recovered from the virus infection. Notably on Monday 4,829 new cases were detected in the state.

 Meanwhile, the death toll due to Covid-19 has climbed up to 8,469 in the State with one more death in the last 24 hours which was reported from Bolangir.

Odisha so far has tested 2,61,78,973 samples, including 69,018 in the last 24 hours, for Covid-19.
