Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday sanctioned another Rs 20 crore to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the smooth management of Covid-19 pandemic fighting measures.

The fund was sanctioned from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF), said a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office.  Earlier, a total of 77 crore was released to the civic body for the Covid management.

“Bhubaneswar houses the highest number of Covid Hospitals in the State and the number of patients being treated here is also the highest. Patients from different parts of the State come to Bhubaneswar for treatment. Therefore, the fund has been sanctioned keeping in view the needs,” the CMO statement said.

The capital city has so far reported 81570 confirmed cases of Covid-19. While 73965 people have recovered from the disease till date, 362 succumbed to the virus. The active cases in the city now stand at 7222.
