Even as the daily Covid-19 positives in the State hovered in the range of 400-600 during the last 7-day period, Director of Medical Education & Training (DMET) CBK Mohanty today warned people not to let their guard down against the novel virus.

“A surge is being recorded in some countries, now. Therefore, don't let the complacency settle within. The State government will raise the surveillance bar to keep the pandemic in check,” said Mohanty.

"Testing, tracking and treatment will remain our surveillance weapon, and the health department is fully geared for it. At the same time, we urge one and all to adhere to Covid-19 appropriate behaviour strictly,” the top health official said.

According to Mohanty, the surge in number of cases in some of the countries could be attributed to complacency in adhering to Covid appropriate behaviour, genetic mutation of the virus and  the commencement of the fall season (autumn) in October.

“People have to strictly adhere to Covid-19 norms even if there is one active case in the State,” Mohanty added.

Notably, Odisha reported 549 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours taking the total number of cases to 10,39,818. Two people succumbed to the virus and the death toll mounted to 8,318. As many as 497 people recovered from the infection on Wednesday taking the total number of recovery cases to 10,26,774.
