At a time when the fear of heavily mutated Omicron variant of Sars-Cov-2 looms large, at least nine girl students of a residential government-run school at Dasrathpur in Jajpur district were found infected with Covid-19 on Monday.

All the girls are students of Class VI and IX of the residential school. The girls have been kept in isolation in separate rooms on the premises of the school and undergoing treatment, informed the District Welfare Officer (DWO).

Earlier, all the 195 girl students of the school had undergone tests for Covid-19. Out of which, the test results of nine have come positive.
“None of the girls had any symptoms but they were tested positive for Covid-19 after medical examination. They have been isolated and under observation. All the students have been tested while test reports of 16 staff of the school are awaited,” informed Jajpur DWO, Budhadeb Panda.

Earlier on December 2, a Plus 2 residential college in Kunjakanta area under ward No 2 of Dhenkanal district was sealed after 33 students were tested positive for Covid-19.

On November 27, a total of 25 students of a tribal residential girl's school in Thakurmunda area of Mayurbhanj district had tested positive for Coronavirus.

On November 23, as many as 53 students of a Girl’s High School in Sundargarh district tested positive for Covid-19. The infected students were from Class 9, 9 and 10. The school was later shut for a week in order to prevent the outbreak of more cases.
