Berhampur: If you are a senior citizen or physically challenged person living in the city and worrying about how to get covid vaccine shot, just dial 73280-99324 and get your problem solved.

The Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has initiated an useful exercise, ‘Vaccination at Door Step’. The prime objective of the novel idea is to inoculate elderly people, divyangs and bed-ridden persons who are unable to reach vaccination centres.

People from the vulnerable sections can book their slot through the helpline number between 8 am and 12 noon.

The special drive has been rolled out today after getting positive response from the doorstep testing programme in the city.

The new inoculation drive will also help reduce rush at vaccination sites.

“The initiative is only meant for the people above 70 years and those who are unable to visit the vaccination centres. We have released a dedicated helpline number through which they can book their slot. The next day, our special vaccination van will reach them and administer the shot at door step," BeMC commissioner, Sidheswar Baliram Bondar said

“We have set a target to inoculate 100 beneficiaries every day. 50 people would be vaccinated in first half and rest would receive the jab in second half of the day. We launched the drive on a trial basis today. We would observe its results and people’s response and then we may ramp it up further,” the commissioner said.

The slot booking through the help line number began yesterday and the programme was launched today.

“Our main objective is to cover the senior citizen, bed-ridden and those who can’t walk out. One vaccination van has a target to cover 100 beneficiaries a day,” Ganjam Collecotor Vijay Amruta Kulange said.

The slot booking had already begun from Sunday through the helpline number. Those who have successfully booked, they will get the benefit at their door step today. They have been given prior information regarding the inoculation programme, the Collector added.

Berhampur MLA Bikram Panda who was present during launch of the programme expressed gratitude to the chief minister for the new exercise for the eledelry and divyang persons.

“The programme shows the farsightedness of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. Elderly people would largely benefit from this programme, the MLA said.

Similarly, the pick and drop vaccination programme for the same sections of the society has been initiated in Bhubaneswar today. Senior citizens and divyangs who are staying alone and can’t travel to inoculation site can contact the civic body help line number. A dedicated van will pick them up to the vaccination centre and drop them at home after inoculation. The Civic body also launched testing at door step for these people from today.
