Bhubaneswar: Renowned Odia music director and singer Amarendra Mohanty passed away on Monday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here after testing positive for Covid-19.

The veteran music director's daughter Anwesha Mohanty confirmed the news of his demise.

According to sources, Mohanty was under treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. His condition was critical and he was on a ventilator support for the last four days. He breathed his last today morning.

“He was tested positive for Covid-19 on April 24 and was admitted to the hospital on May 3. He was on a ventilator support for last four days. Doctors said he was responding well to the treatments. But unfortunately he left us,” Anwesha said.

“As his RT-PCR test report came positive today, his last rites will be performed by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation. This is irreparable loss for our family as well as the Odia film industry,” she added.

Expressing deep grief over the demise of Mohanty, senior music director and composer Prema Anand said, “He had been considered as a royal music director. I am heartbroken after hearing the news. This is a great loss to the Odia music industry.”

“I share a very good relationship with him. He always advised me to maintain the melody I have,” he said while remembering the versatile music director.
