While the whole country is outraged over the death of two young IT engineers after being hit by an overspeeding Porsche in Pune, at least seven more people including a three-month-old baby were injured after a speeding car hit them in another road mishap.
The incident has been reported from Maharashtra’s Nagpur on Friday night, sources said. The driver of the vehicle was fully drunk. Liquor bottles as well as ganja were recovered from his car, police said.
According to police, the accident occurred at 8pm near Zenda Chowk in the densely populated Mahal area of Nagpur city. The driver along with two of his friends, all in their 20s, were fully drunk and driving the car when they hit the pedestrians.
The accused trio has been identified as Sunny Chavan, Anshul Dhale and one of their friends.
After hitting the pedestrians, the driver tried to speed away from the spot but crashed into a few bikes. Locals chased all the three while they were trying to escape from the car. They were brutally thrashed by the public before being handed over to the cops.
The angry public also broke the windows of the car and completely damaged the vehicle.
A woman, her 3-month-old baby and a man are reportedly in critical condition. The remaining four sustained minor injuries, police said. It was not immediately known who was driving the car during the incident.
Meanwhile, the grandfather of the 17-year-old Pune teen who ran over two techies with his Porsche has been arrested after the family’s driver alleged that he was threatened, wrongfully confined to take the blame for the accident, police sources said.
Social media is abuzz that the boy and his family members were pressuring the driver to take the blame.
