Tragedy struck twice a family in Bolangir district after a man who was taking the body of his wife home from a hospital to perform her last rites died in an ambulance mishap.

The tragic incident was reported from Patnagarh area in the district on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Bipin Seth of Larki village under Turekela block.

According to reports, Bipin’s wife Saebani Seth was undergoing treatment for paralysis at Burla Hospital for some days. However, she passed away on Tuesday despite an all-out effort by the doctors and his husband.

While Bipin was bringing the dead body of his wife to the village in an ambulance to perform her last rites, the vehicle met with the accident at Jhulenbar near Patnagarh. The ambulance lost its balance and hit a roadside tree leaving Bipin dead. The driver of the ambulance fled after the mishap.

Upon being informed, Patnagarh police rushed to the spot and seized the vehicle. Further investigation into the incident is underway.

“The family members of the deceased have been informed about the accident. The reason of the accident is yet to be ascertained. We are looking forward to arrest the absconding driver soon,” said a police official.
