As per IMD, cyclone Dana is likely to make landfall somewhere between Bhitarkanika and Dhamra. As many as 288 rescue teams have been deployed in 13 Odisha districts to tackle any eventualities that may occur during the cyclone Dana’s landfall process. The cyclone is likely to be named Dana, a name given by Qatar.

As per the latest IMD bulletin, at 2130 Hrs IST, the severe cyclonic storm 'Dana' moved North-Northwestwards at a speed of 13 Kmph and lay centred about 60 Km east of Paradip, 80 Km South-Southeast of Dhamra and 180 Km south-southwest of Sagar Island (West Bengal).
As per the IMD release, the storm is very likely to move north-northwest-wards and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamra during the midnight of 24th to morning Of 25th October 2024. It is likely to make landfall as a severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting up to 120 kmph.
ISRO on Thursday said its satellites have been tracking the cyclonic storm 'Dana' that is approaching the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal, providing real-time data to aid disaster management efforts.
It said, polar orbiting satellite EOS-06 and geostationary satellite INSAT-3DR are regularly providing valuable information on the cyclone status.

The Cyclonic Storm Dana over east-central and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards and intensified into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over central & adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal. The Severe Cyclonic Storm now lies about 280 km southeast of Paradip, 310 km south-southeast of Dhamara.

Popular sea beaches of Odisha wore a deserted look on Wednesday as the state is making preparations to tackle cyclone Dana which is likely to make landfall in the early hours of October 25.
More than 1.14 lakh people in West Bengal have been evacuated to safer shelters so far, with severe cyclone 'Dana' approaching the adjacent Odisha coast, officials said on Wednesday.

As Cyclone Dana is approaching Odisha coast, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that the cyclonic storm has been currently centered at Central Bay of Bengal that is around 420 km away from Paradip.
While reviewing the State’s preparedness to tackle cyclone Dana at the Special Relief Commissioner’s office in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi urged people not to panic and remain safe and alert.
As per the latest IMD bulletin, by 1730 hours IST, cyclonic storm Dana laid centred about 420 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 450 km south-southeast of Dhamara (Odisha) and 500 km south-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal).
"It is very likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by the early morning of 24th and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamara (Odisha) during mid-night of 24th to the morning of 25th October 2024 as a severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph," the IMD bulletin read.
In view of the impending landfall of Cyclone Dana, the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar suspended flight operations. The flight services at the airport will remain suspended from Thursday 5PM till 9AM of October 25th. This information was shared by the Airports Authority of India.

As cyclonic storm Dana continues to approach the Odisha coast, the India Meteorological Department on Wednesday predicted that as many as three districts in the State- Kendrapara, Balasore and Bhadrak are likely to be the most affected.

As Cyclone 'Dana' barrels toward the Odisha coast, threatening to impact nearly half the state's population, the government is racing against time to execute a massive evacuation plan aimed at relocating around 10 lakh people in 14 districts to safety.
In view of the impending cyclone, high mast lights at several places across Bhubaneswar have been lowered: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.
The Kolkata airport authorities have decided to suspend flight operations for 15 hours from 6 pm on Thursday in view of the possible impact of cyclone Dana, an official said.

Odisha CM directs ministers to supervise cyclone management in districts likely to be affected by probable Cyclone Dana.

As many as 288 rescue teams have been deployed in 13 districts to tackle any eventualities that may occur during the cyclone Dana’s landfall process and in its wake.
The depression over the East-central Bay of Bengal on Tuesday intensified into a deep depression and lay about 690 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 740 km south-southeast of Sagar Island (West Bengal) and 710 km south-southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh).
At a time when the Odisha government is bracing itself up to ensure zero casualties in cyclone Dana, as many as 15 families are learnt to have been stranded on an island in Balasore district.

In view of eminent Cyclone Dana, as many as 93 trains have been cancelled for three days, on October 23, 24 and 25.
As per reports, all the hospitals have been directed to keep anti-snake venoms and medicines for diarrhoea. The hospitals have also been asked to keep 24x7 power back up.
October 24 and October 25 will be crucial for the people in several districts of Odisha in view of the severe cyclonic storm Dana which is likely to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall in Odisha.
As per an official notification issued by the Office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), colleges and universities in 14 districts will remain closed from October 23 to October 25, 2024.
Revenue And Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari says, "A total of 250 relief centres have been reviewed by the officials and kept ready. Apart from this, 500 temporary shelters have been made ready including schools and colleges. Those, who will be evacuated, will be provided cooked food and medical services. A list of pregnant women has also been prepared by the health department. Women, children and elderly persons have been advised to shift to safer places in the affected areas. Women police officers will be deployed at relief centres... Everything at ground zero is ready, and an adequate stock of ration has been kept ready along with polythene and other materials..."
