"I was apprehensive first about the show because I don`t trust music shows. I feel they all go to that TRP route where they manipulate the reactions and situations. I have done enough in my life and I am not in a position today where I want to waste my time and worth with petty little issues, quarrels...fights and negativity. Music is too pure for me and I don`t want to dilute it," Sonu told PTI in an interview.
Sonu will now be seen judging the Indian version of the singing reality show `X Factor` alongside filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and singer Shreya Ghoshal.
"I am doing an adult singing show after six years. I was judging kids music show - `Chotte Ustad` and `Little Champs`. I realised that the team of Sony is seriously into making this (X-factor) a biggest extravaganza on television.
They have great ideas and I would like to make this show credible," Sonu said.
The 37-year-old singer was the judge for two seasons of `Indian Idol`. Recently, he also judged children`s singing reality shows - `Little Champs` and `Chhote Ustaad`.
About the show, Sonu said, "The show promises to do something that has never been done before in the field of music. There will be singers in the range of 16 to 80-90 years of age, whoever is capable and has that x-factor, has vocal prowess can come in. There can be two singers, group singers or individuals."
