Bollywood’s beloved superstar Salman Khan has won millions of hearts with his talent, charm, and dedication. The Unexpected Casting in Biwi Ho Toh Aisi
Veteran filmmaker JK Bihari recently opened up about casting Salman Khan in his debut film Biwi Ho Toh Aisi (1988). Speaking to Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, Bihari revealed that Salman never mentioned his famous father during his audition, a move that might have changed his destiny forever. 'I Chose Him the Moment I Saw Him'
Recalling the moment he first saw Salman, Bihari said, “I was sitting in my garage and saw a boy walking towards me with a file in his hand. I decided, just by looking at his walk, that I am going to sign him.”
The director revealed that Salman didn’t even have to audition for the part, his presence alone was enough to impress.
Honesty That Left an Impression
According to Bihari, Salman’s humility was what stood out the most. “He came and talked to me, and I said yes. He couldn’t believe it. He didn’t take his father’s name. Had he done that, I might not have cast him,” the filmmaker admitted. He further explained that the role was minor and not one befitting the son of a celebrated writer.
“Salim Khan was such a big name, and this was a small part - not a hero’s role,” said Bihari. The film starred Rekha and Farooq Sheikh in lead roles, with Salman portraying Farooq’s younger brother.
Fate, Timing, and a Chance Encounter
Bihari revealed that most of the film’s cast, including Asrani, Bindu, and Kader Khan, was already finalised. “I was still looking for someone to play the younger brother’s role when Salman walked in. It was just destiny. He came at the right time,” he shared.
Later, Bihari discovered Salman’s lineage and worried the young actor might turn down the role.
“When I learnt he was Salim Khan’s son, I thought he might refuse. But he didn’t. Salim Khan told me, ‘You’re a new director, and he’s new too.’”
A Humble Start Before Stardom
Determined to make his mark, Salman agreed to a strict three-film contract for a nominal fee. “He wanted a break, so he was ready to sign anything,” Bihari revealed.
