Shilpa Shinde’s return as the beloved Angoori Bhabi in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain 2.0 has stirred nostalgia and excitement. Yet, the joy is tinged with emotion as fans grapple with Shubhangi Atre’s departure after nearly a decade of redefining the role. The celebration soon took a contentious turn when Shilpa’s remarks about Shubhangi ignited criticism, prompting Mahabharat fame Sourabh Raaj Jain to speak out.

Sourabh Jain Takes a Stand

Taking to Instagram Stories, Sourabh didn’t mince words as he called out what he perceived as a lack of grace.

He wrote, “Replaced actor entertained audience for around 10years, being loved throughout, and for whatever reasons when the first actor again steps into the same character which she let go for whatever reasons 10 years back, tells media…. the replaced actor isn’t as big as her and lacks comic timing, no Ma’m it’s YOU who lack basic decency…. IYKYK" (sic)

He followed up with a note of introspection and learning, adding, "Why I am sharing this….It’s for the learning for myself and for all like minded people, it’s humility that counts everything else is transient.” (sic)

What Sparked the Backlash? 

During an interview with Telly Chakkar, Shilpa Shinde reflected on Shubhangi Atre’s portrayal of Angoori Bhabi. While she acknowledged Shubhangi’s acting skills, something she had done even during her 2016 exit controversy, Shilpa also remarked that comedy isn’t everyone’s forte.

She highlighted how difficult it is to step into a well-established character, particularly as a newcomer under relentless pressure.

It’s worth noting that following Shilpa’s exit, Shubhangi seamlessly stepped into Angoori Bhabi’s shoes and went on to play the character for nearly ten years, earning widespread love and loyalty from viewers. 

How Did Shubhangi Atre Respond to Shilpa Shinde Reclaiming the Role?

Shubhangi Atre’s response to Shilpa Shinde stepping back into the role struck a markedly different note. In an earlier interaction with Bombay Times, Shubhangi shared her hope that the recurring cycle of replacements would eventually come to an end.

The situation carries a touch of irony, she had once replaced Shilpa in Chidiya Ghar, only to face a similar fate when Shilpa later returned to the show. Looking back with warmth, Shubhangi shared that she handed Angoori Bhabi back to Shilpa wholeheartedly, praising her talent and expressing genuine admiration.

She was quoted as saying, "I just want to say that I am ending this replacement game now. I told my mum that Shilpa left the show in nine to ten months, so it felt like she handed me a newborn baby. I raised that baby for ten years, and now I am returning it to her. I am passing it back with a full heart. I wish Shilpa all the very best and also the entire team for the 2.0 version of the show. She is a fantastic actor, and I am genuinely fond of her."
