Awarapan 2 Buzz: Emraan Hashmi’s Shivam comeback with Disha Patani goes viral after set photo leak?

Nearly 19 years after Awarapan failed to impress at the box office but went on to become a cult favourite, the film is ready for a powerful rebirth. Emraan Hashmi returns as Shivam in Awarapan 2, reviving one of the most emotionally resonant characters of his career. Scheduled for an April 3, 2026 release, the sequel introduces Disha Patani as the female lead, while filmmaker Nitin Kakkar takes charge of the romantic drama.

Leaked Set Photo Fuels Online Buzz

As the film nears the end of its shoot, reportedly, a picture from the Awarapan 2 set has surfaced online, setting social media abuzz. The leaked image shows Emraan Hashmi in a rugged leather jacket paired with a black T-shirt and trousers, reinforcing Shivam’s intense persona.

Disha Patani, on the other hand, is seen in a simple printed ethnic suit, hinting at a character rooted in emotion rather than glamour.

However, authenticity of the picture couldn't be verified. Meanwhile, fans are going gaga over the viral picture.

Emraan Hashmi Teases What’s in Store

Speaking exclusively to Zoom, Hashmi offered a glimpse into the sequel’s mood while keeping the suspense intact. He said, “It’s got crazy music, it’s got fantastic, intense scenes. I’m not telling you anything right now, you’ll discover it when you see the film."

Reflecting on the long road to the sequel, he shared, "Awarapan has been in discussion for almost six years. There was a conversation earlier, pre-COVID, and I said, 'How can you bring back Shivam?' The finality of the film was where he apparently dies. So there have been ideas and I think we cracked something really good in 2022, when my friend Bilal came with the script, which fits it to the T and takes that brand ahead."

A Sequel Beyond Fan Service

Emraan Hashmi emphasised that Awarapan 2 aims to move beyond nostalgia. 

He explained, "It doesn’t just do it to capitalise on Awarapan or its cult following - which it has, by the way. I realise whenever I meet fans, they’re like, 'We love these films,' but Awarapan has had a visceral, profound reaction from the audience and a fan following that has grown over the years - almost eight years. People even have Awarapan tattoos on their arms and all that."
