Awarapan 2: Disha Patani joins Emraan Hashmi in gritty sequel? Filming to begin soon!
Back in 2007, Awarapan won audiences with its haunting blend of love, betrayal, and redemption. Now, after years of anticipation, Awarapan 2 is officially on the way, with Emraan Hashmi returning to his iconic role. And the latest buzz making waves in the industry is that Disha Patani has been roped in as the female lead opposite him.
According to an exclusive report by Pinkvilla, Disha Patani has officially joined the project as the female lead. While Emraan will reprise his iconic character of Shivam Pandit, Disha's character details are being kept under wraps. However, sources suggest that her role will bring a fresh dimension to Shivam’s journey.
The report quoted a close source to the development as saying, "Much like Awarapan, the sequel too is an intense love story, set against the backdrop of the gangster world. The spirit of the first part is intact, and the makers are expanding the world into a sequel format with 2x the romance, 2x the emotions."
Directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqi, the sequel is being produced by Vishesh Bhatt’s Vishesh Films. Emraan recently revealed that the script underwent nearly two years of development to ensure it does justice to the original’s legacy. Filming is expected to kick off later this year, with the makers aiming for a more expansive cinematic world while keeping the heart of Awarapan intact.
However, fans need to wait for an official announcement from the makers.
2007's Awarapan, though not a massive box-office success, the film steadily gained cult status thanks to its intense storytelling, unforgettable music, and Emraan’s powerful performance as Shivam Pandit. On his 46th birthday earlier this year, Emraan unveiled the first teaser of Awarapan 2, confirming the film’s release date as April 3, 2026. The teaser instantly sent fans into a nostalgic frenzy.
With Awarapan’s soundtrack still cherished today, music will remain a vital part of the sequel’s identity. Director Mohit Suri, who helmed the first film, expressed confidence that this sequel could mark a big comeback for Emraan Hashmi, noting that he is “just one hit away.”
