If a time capsule of the 90’s Music is made, we might find Anuradha Paudwal’s voice a number of times in diverse genres. The veteran singer remains 90’s landmark voice and a crucial factor in adding life to Madhuri Dixit’s dance moves on the big screen.

From devotional songs that are still played on every festivities to Masala Bollywood songs that had the audience whistle to, the poster girl of versatility turns 66 today.

Apart from her Bollywood, her contribution to the Odia music industry right when it was going through a transformation is unmissable.

In the year 1979, Anuradha was rising to fame with soulful Hindi numbers alongside artists like Mohd Rafi and Kishore Kumar. The year also marked her entry into the Odia music industry with the superhit duets like ‘Janha Amaku Luchi Dekhuchhi’ and “Mana Mora Eka Tiki Chadhei”. She continued to enthrall the listeners with her melody in the Odia music industry from thereon.

The Padma Shri recipient has a number of Odia devotional songs to her credit as well; her bhajans on Shri Jagannath like ‘Kalia Mo Dehe’ and ‘Kala Thakura Moro’ are still played during the annual religious extravaganza, Rath Yatra, which speaks of its impact.

Her super hit duet partnership with Mohd Aziz reflected in songs like ‘Kara Nahi Bahana’,  ‘Odani Mora Odani’ and the duo went on to deliver more than 50 songs together during their career.

The artistes brought a new wave of change for female singers in the Odia industry with her solos like ‘Mo Mana Kagajare’, ‘Monar Desare’ that showcased that the listeners are ready for female singers taking up more space and not just duets. The replacement of the female singer who can take the Odia listeners by storm has still not been found yet.
