The Sambalpur district on Wednesday witnessed a shocking murder after a gupchup (puchka) vendor was brutally killed and his body was dumped near a forest under the Kuchinda police station limits. The crime took place near the Domuhani forest road, close to Khadhiapali village, sending shockwaves through the local area.
The deceased has been identified as Jagannath Palei, a resident of Khadiapali village, who earned his livelihood by selling gupchup in nearby villages. According to family members, Jagannath followed a fixed routine and would leave home early every morning to sell gupchup from village to village. On the day of the incident, he left home as usual but did not return by evening.
Body Found In Pool Of Blood
As hours passed with no sign of him, his family members grew increasingly anxious. His elderly parents set out to search for their son and were left traumatised after discovering Jagannath’s blood-soaked body lying on the roadside in the forested area. Locals were immediately alerted, and the police were informed.

Upon receiving information, Kuchinda police rushed to the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. Preliminary findings suggest that Jagannath was murdered in a brutal manner, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report.
Suspect Detained
In connection with the case, the police have detained one person for questioning and launched a detailed investigation. Officials stated that all possible angles, including personal enmity and robbery, are being examined.
“We received a call yesterday evening that a body was found in a farmland in Khadiapali. Based on the information, the police team rushed to the spot for an enquiry. After the probe, the identity of the body was found to be that of Jagannath Palei. Blood was flowing from his body and face. Based on a complaint by his family members, a murder case has been filed at Kuchinda police station,” informed Pradeep Das, Kuchinda SDPO.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the murder and identify any others involved. The incident has sparked fear and anger among locals, who have demanded swift justice and enhanced security in the area.
