Youth slits the throat of newly-wed, attempts to kill himself

Bhubaneswar: A youth today slit the throat of a newly-wed woman and later tried to kill himself in Bhanjanagar of Ganjam district.

As per sources, the youth, a resident of Karadabadi village under Buguda police limits allegedly barged into the house of the newly-wed woman who had come to her maternal place along with her husband, 10 days after their wedding and committed the crime.

Preliminary reports revealed that the accused youth used a cutter-knife to slit the woman's throat and also cut his own throat but was rushed to Aska Hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.

Informed about the incident, cops reached the spot and recovered the cutter knife from the spot .

Husband of the deceased woman meanwhile has said that said he was completely unaware of what happened.

"I had just returned from bath when I saw this man slitting my wife's throat and later trying to slit his own. I do not know if there was any  kind of rivalry or any other issues behind this incident. I am shocked," he said

Investigation is on to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident and all angles are being probed, said police.
