Bhubaneswar: Covid-19 cases continued to rise in Odisha with the State reporting 297 fresh positive cases in the last 24 hours, informed the State Information and Public Relations Department on Wednesday.

While Wednesday's figures was the highest in the last over two months time, the State has been reporting more than 200 fresh cases for seven days in a row.

Of the fresh positives, 174 cases were detected in quarantine centres while the rest 123 are local transmission cases.

Kalahandi reported a maximum 57 cases followed by Sundargarh (38), Khordha (33), Nuapada (31), Bargarh (18), Cuttack (17), Sambalpur (17) and Keonjhar (12).

Kalahandi has reported a total of 6,560 Covid-19 cases till date which included 152 actives cases, 33 deaths and 6,375 recoveries.

With the inclusion of today’s figures, the cumulative infected cases in the State has gone up to 3,40,917. Odisha now has 2,013 active cases while 3,36,930 patients have recovered from the infection so far, added the State I&PR Department.

The State has so far tested over 90,43,972 samples for Covid-19 tests including 20,874 on Tuesday. Odisha’s positivity rate stands at 3.77 per cent, a data released by the Health and Family Welfare department said.

It may be noted that almost after two months, the Covid-19 cases are witnessing a steep rise in the State and educational institutes seem to have become the epicentre of the resurgence of the virus.

As many as 32 students had tested positive for Covid-19 in a private college at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district on Monday.

Similarly, 10 students had tested positive for the virus at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar two days back. Over 20 students had tested positive at a coaching institute in the State capital following which Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) seal the campus to check further spread of the virus.

Earlier, three Covid-19 cases were reported at the Ravenshaw University in Cuttack last week.
