Bhawanipatna: Several private educational institutions in Odisha are now experiencing a surge in Covid-19 cases. A private college in Bhawanipatna was the latest to report 32 Covid-19 cases on Monday.

Confirming the development, Kalahandi Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) said that the students, who have tested positive for Covid-19, were staying in the hostel of the college.

“From antigen tests, 32 students have tested positive for Covid-19. Initially, 12 of the had tested positive for the virus,” the CDMO added.

It is pertinent to mention here that Covid-19 cases are witnessing a steep rise in Odisha. Fresh Covid cases are also being reported from several educational institutions in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

As many as 10 students tested positive for the Covid-19 at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar. “All have come from outside the State. They have tested positive for the virus during contact tracing. All have been put under quarantine,” Khordha Collector Sanat Kumar Mohanty said yesterday.

Similarly, over 20 students had tested positive for the virus at a coaching institute, Allen Institute following which Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) sealed the campus.

Earlier, three Covid-19 cases were reported from Ravenshaw University in Cuttack last week.
