Washington: US President Barack Obama today said America has enormous respect for the Afghan sovereignty and the dignity of its people and together the two nations are committed to "replacing war with peace".

"The US did not come here to claim resources or to claim territory. We came with a very clear mission: We came to destroy al-Qaeda. We have enormous respect for Afghan sovereignty and the dignity of the Afghan people. But together we`re now committed to replacing war with peace and pursuing a more hopeful future as equal partners," Obama said in his remarks after signing the Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) in Kabul, arriving at the Bagram air base unaanounced.
