Washington: Stepping up pressure on Islamabad to rein in the Haqqani network which has been targeting NATO forces brazenly in Afghanistan, the US has asked Pakistan`s Army chief Ashfaq Pervez Kayani to dismantle "safe havens" of the terror group in North Waziristan.

The tough message was conveyed by Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to his Pakistani counterpart Kayani at a two-hour private meeting late Friday during a military conference in Seville, Spain, where the two discussed their nations` complicated relationship.
