Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the BJD-led Odisha government, claiming that the state government has been hijacking the schemes of the Central government by printing its own photographs on advertisements in a bid to take credit. The BJD government is solely hankering after grabbing votes without really doing anything concrete on the ground, he added.

Addressing a rally organised as part of the Sankalp Samavesh in Athagarh of Cuttack district, the Union Minister highlighted various schemes launched by the Modi government and pointed out that a total of 50 crore bank accounts have been opened under Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana across the country out of which, 27.11 crore accounts have been opened by women due to the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Of the 2 crore such bank accounts opened in Odisha, one crore accounts belong to women. The Prime Minister is always ready to provide funds under various people-centric welfare schemes and has instructed banks to ensure that there should be no dearth of funds for the women,” the Union Minister reiterated.

He said that during the 10-year term of the UPA government, Odisha was provided with Rs 3 lakh crores while the Modi-led NDA government has allocated over Rs 18 lakh crore to the state in the last nine years and four months.

“The Centre allocated 27 lakh housing units to Odisha since 2015 till date. On an average, construction of 9,000 housing units should be undertaken per day, but only 32 units are being constructed now,” he asserted.

He further said that owing to the efforts of the Prime Minister, 77 lakh toilets have been constructed in Odisha.
“Modi has provided drinking water, electricity, toilets and gas, but what the state government has given to the people,” the Union Minister questioned.

Meanwhile, no comments have been received from the BJD or the Congress.
