An Indian-origin entrepreneur has drawn widespread attention on social media after sharing a video of herself shopping at a mall in the United States while dressed in a saree during the Christmas season.

The video, posted by Sakshi Sharma Vaidya on Instagram, shows her browsing stores and admiring festive displays while wearing a blue saree designed by her. The attire attracted curious glances as well as compliments from fellow shoppers at the mall.

In the clip, Vaidya is seen walking through the shopping complex, pausing at decorated storefronts and Christmas installations. She later shared that while the saree did invite a few puzzled looks, it also led to several positive interactions. “I wore a saree because I felt like it,” she wrote, emphasising that clothing is a form of personal expression rather than a performance.

Explaining her choice, Vaidya said wearing traditional attire was not intended to seek attention. “Culture is not a costume, it’s a choice,” she said, highlighting her belief that individuals should feel free to wear clothing that reflects their identity and comfort, irrespective of location or occasion.

The video quickly gained traction online, with social media users praising her confidence and sense of style. Many viewers appreciated the blend of festive spirit and traditional attire, while others enquired about the saree’s origin. Vaidya responded that the saree was her own design.
