Look at these people queuing outside the hospital. They are waiting here to avail medicine of tuberculosis. However, they have to leave the hospital premises dejected due to unavailability and shortage of TB medicine. These are visuals from District Headquarters Hospital in Balasore. As per the information, over 2700 TB patients in Odisha’s Balasore district have been allegedly forced to stop medication as the required number of medicines is not available in hospitals including the district headquarters hospital. People from the nearby villages also come to Balasore DHH but the patients are allegedly supplied a maximum of only six medicines from a strip, which is not sufficient. When asked, District Public Health Officer Dr Mrutyunjay Mishra admitted that there is a shortage of TB medicine. He further said that the government has allowed them to procure medicines from outside through a tender. An Uttarakhand-based medicine company has signed a contract to supply medicine. So Dr Mishra said that the problem would be resolved soon.
