The nursing student’s family immediately rushed her to Malkangiri district headquarters hospital (DHH), but doctors at the health facility declared her ‘dead’.

In a statement, the young woman’s father alleged that she took the extreme step and ended her life due to ‘cheating in love’. While an official police statement is awaited, locals have begun demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the victim.

The incident has reignited concerns over mental health, emotional abuse in relationships, and the lack of institutional support for young students in distress.

“Injustice has been done to my daughter. After a long relationship with my daughter, he is now refusing. When I called him and asked about the matter, he told me ‘I would not take her’,” the victim’s father, Brundaban Biswas, stated, quoting the boy.

“I told him it is fine, but do not hurt her. Otherwise, it is very likely that she might commit suicide. He had earlier committed to marry my daughter. His father had also agreed to the proposal,” the elderly man stated.

“Now, I want him to be stringently punished,” Brundaban Biswas added.
