Years after the bill's passage in the parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led govt has officially notified the Citizenship Amendment Act rules. The Government on Monday announced the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The announcement came just days before the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) comes into play ahead of the Lok Sabha election 2024. The citizenship amendment act was an integral part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s manifesto for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The notification of the rules is set to pave the way for the migrants/refugees from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan who belong to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, and Christian communities to find citizenship in India. Following the notification of CAA implementation, security has been beefed up in shaheen bagh. Meanwhile, Bengal CM mamata banerjee has criticized the govt saying this is BJP’s publicity for the elections.
