The Diwali festive spirit is at its peak in Puducherry as the government has allowed the sale of firecrackers in the area after as long as three years. To add to the delight of locals, Papsco crackers, which is a government agency, has set up shops across the Union Territory to sell firecrackers at subsidized prices.

As per reports, Papsco is providing firecrackers to the public at a 75 per cent subsidy. This happy occasion has come after three years, since last year, Diwali was a dull affair due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the earlier government had not allowed the sale of firecrackers in the area for almost two years before that.

However, this year, the government allowed the celebration to take place after achieving 80 percent vaccination in the Union Territory.

After the decision by the government, locals are elated as they will be able to celebrate the festival of lights with much pomp and show. Others also welcomed the government's decision to allow celebrations only after achieving a high percentage of vaccination in the Union Territory.
