“Who are you fooling? You have taken bribe. You have not done any counseling, and telling me he will come. If I had not come for counseling, why have I turned up here today? If I am not right, the moment my husband tried to ditch me, I would have created nuisance here that very day, why am I bringing all this today? All of them have been bribed; I have proof which I will produce in the court..”

A high drama unfolded in Berhampur on Monday (November 22) after a man reportedly left his bride on their wedding day. As per reports, one Sumit Sahu was set to tie the nuptial knot with Dimple Dash in Brahma Nagar of the silk city. However, much to the shock of the bride’s family, the groom did not turn up at the wedding venue.

Since then, the bride along with her family has been staging a dharna outside the groom’s house angered over his fake promise of marriage. But it seems there’s more to this wedding than meets the eye. Sumit and Dimple are legally-wedded husband and wife and their marriage is reportedly registered at a marriage registrar’s office but a marital discord had cropped up later. On Monday, both of them were supposed to solemnize the marriage with customary Hindu rituals.

However, not everything turned out to be as expected by Dimple. Threatening to commit suicide, she has alleged that the police and marriage counseling officials have been bribed by the groom to keep their mouths shut.

“I will continue sit-in till the time my husband doesn’t take me along. I have proof that our marriage is registered. I also have proof regarding the date he had fixed for marriage and all those necessary items purchased for this wedding. This is not a lie. It’s been two years since we were legally wedded, and three years into our relationship. He knows all this. My husband is very good, just that he has been manipulated by his family members. He has been told that being a doctor, he should stay away from all this, as already a case has been registered. If he supports me in front of media, this might ruin his future. That is why he is not supporting me.” said complainant, Dimple Dash

Meanwhile, complaints have been lodged by both the sides. Berhampur SP, on the other hand, said the matter is sub-judice so police’s role is restricted.

“The woman claimed that she was married to the youth. The woman alleged that the man deserted her after promising to wed her. A case under Sec 498A has earlier been registered at the Mahila Police station in this connection. We have already served notices to all those named in that FIR. The groom’s family has also filed a complaint and has moved court over marital discord. Because a charge sheet has already been filed, and the case is sub-judice the role of the police is restricted. We will act as per the court’s direction.” said Berhampur SP, Pinak Mishra.
