Odisha Police on Tuesday (Sept 14), arrested as many as 4 contractual employees of Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) in Balsore's Chandipur, for allegedly leaking sensitive information to foreign agents.

The four had reportedly been leaking data regarding the high-security defence installation at DRDO. This information was provided by Eastern Range Inspector-General of Police, Himanshu Lal and Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP).

Sources said that the four accused had been engaged in the manual operational works at the defence installation for a while. Earlier, a special squad led by the Eastern Range IG had detained five contractual employees of DRDO from the main gate of the premises, suspecting espionage.

Earlier in 2015, a photographer named Ishwar Behera who was engaged at DRDO’s Integrated Test Range in Balasore on a contract basis was arrested on charges of espionage. Ishwar was arrested for passing on information to Pakistani agents and is currently serving a life sentence.
