India should aggressively work on reopening schools, stated the director of All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Dr Randeep Guleria on Wednesday (June 23). Guleria stated that the decision to reopen schools has to be taken by the authorities.

However, he said that he personally feels that closure of schools has affected the young generation adversely in terms of knowledge and learning. He also emphasized that the marginalized students have suffered the most due to lack of access to online classes. The AIIMS Director further said that physical schools are useful in helping individuals grow.

He emphasized that the interaction among students and other activities in school help in the development of children's character. He suggested that the country should try and work on strategies for reopening schools in a graded manner, while adhering to the Covid guidelines.
