Odisha Police on Monday (August 16) announced that the Emergency Police Services helpline number was changed to 112 instead of 100, to be used by people of Odisha during times of distress.
Taking to twitter, Odisha Police department made this important announcement stating that citizens of the state can use the toll-free number 112 to contact the State Police, including the Urban Police District (UPD) Bhubaneswar.
The tweet stated that PD Bhubaneswar (Dial 100) is now integrated with Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) (Dial 112). Odisha Police urge to the people of Odisha including UPD Bhubaneswar to dial 112 in case of emergency rather dialing 100.
It is pertinent to mention that earlier in March; Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had launched 'Dial 112' Emergency Response Support System (ERSS). The service which was launched with an expenditure of Rs 157 Cr was aimed at helping people to have one toll-free number for all emergency services including police, fire and health.
Additionally, it is also believed that eventually all the emergency numbers available in the state will be integrated into the toll-free number 112 for the ease of the citizens.
