Ahead of commencement of online classes next week, Odisha government has released a set of guidelines to be followed during the virtual classes through YouTube live streaming for students of elementary classes across the state. In a letter addressed to all District Education Officers (DEO) and District Project Co-coordinators of the state, the State Mass Education Department has said that the classes for elementary students through YouTube will be held from June 21 till July 2 2021.

In the first phase, eight districts have been selected for organising live streaming classes. The letter also mentions the districts, subjects/chapters to be taught, books to be used and specified time for each class. All the classes would be conducted as per the common time table. The chapters taught will be as prepared by the Odisha School Education Program Authority (OSEPA) for Class 1 to 8. Whatever is being taught to the students of Class 1 to 8, will be streamed at the same time for the particular classes in the respective districts.

For example, Khordha will teach for Class 1 and Bolangir for Class 2, simultaneously. In a particular period of the daily time table, one teacher will teach a lesson for a particular subject and class, for all the students across the state. The notification further stated that the classes will be held from Monday to Friday from 9 AM till 10 AM for Class 1 till Class 3. The timing of the classes for students of Class 4 till 8 has been fixed between 9 AM till 10:30 AM. Each teaching period will be of 30 minute duration. Weekends will be exempted from classes to give teachers time for preparation of lessons and related classes.

The DEOs have been asked to prepare basic YouTube Live Streaming studios by improving classrooms and arranging minimum equipment required for the process. Meanwhile, the MIS (Monitoring of Scheme) unit of ‘Samagra Siksha’ will look after the technical side of the programme while the pedagogy unit will look into the academic aspects of the programme.
