When a lethal coronavirus pandemic hit India last year, hundreds of companies were forced to shut their offices overnight and adapt to new ways of working. And soon, work from home culture became a new normal in the country.

Like others, India's largest employer Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) also sent thousands of its employees back, to work from home. Now, almost after a year of remote work, TCS which employs more than 5 lakh people is reportedly planning to end work from home and return to the office.

Speaking to an international media (BBC), NG Subramaniam, the Chief Operating Officer at TCS, said that it's the time to "replenish" the social capital that an office environment fosters. As per reports, around 90 per cent of the TCS staff in India have been administered at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

The company’s Chief Operating Officer also said that almost 50 per cent employees are in favour of returning to offices. The future is uncertain. But with restrictions being eased owing to declining Covid cases, many IT companies including Wipro and Infosys are reportedly thinking of reopening the offices.

Initially, TCS is planning to bring back at least 80-90% of its employees to the offices. If reports are to be believed, the company is planning to implement its hybrid model, under which only 25% of its staff will work from office by 2025.

Well, the permutations and combinations might change again if India sees a third wave this year. Till the time, TCS reportedly might continue remote working and would be following a flexible or hybrid work model for as long as possible to meet the requirements.

The IT firm which has offices in 50 countries and over 250 locations is gearing up to hire over 40,000 freshers from campuses in India in the Financial Year 2022.
