This buffalo is a special breed and is called Manda buffalo. These buffalos are not affected by the vagaries of weather. They traverse the hilly lands of Koraput in Odisha to graze.

These buffaloes can climb difficult terrain, help in farming and produce milk as well. For their versatility and uniqueness, Manda buffaloes are now recognised at national level.

These buffaloes which have ash grey and grey-coloured skin with copper hair have received national recognition and are the 19th recognized buffalo breed in India. Moreover, this rare species of buffalo is also resistant to various parasitic infections as they have higher immunity and are less prone to diseases. The reproduction capacity of this species of buffalo is also very good. However, the population of this special breed of Manda buffaloes in slowly declining. On the other hand, the government said that efforts will be made to increase the population of this breed of buffaloes.
