While CBSE Class 10th and 12th students across India are waiting for the board exam results likely to release this week, not all is well among the private student community. Last week on July 21, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had announced to conduct the board examination of CBSE private candidates between August 16 and September 15. With protests erupting, the CBSE Exam Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj on Tuesday came up with a clarification regarding examination dates.
Speaking to national media, Bhardwaj said that the announced dates are only for Class 12 private students. According to the exam controller, a separate notification regarding examination of Class 10 private students will be released soon. It has been seen that the CBSE private, compartment, Patrachar and improvement students have been demanding a similar assessment criteria as CBSE regular students for a long time now. Some videos of students purportedly demanding cancellation of CBSE private examination amid the COVID-19 pandemic situation have also gone viral. In view of the protests, the exam controller has clarified regarding assessment of CBSE private students who are demanding exam cancellation and promotion this year.
According to Bhardwaj, since a number of exams were cancelled last year because of the pandemic crisis, the Board does not have all the required records to assess the students for board exams. So it is not possible to follow the same assessment criteria for private students. On Thursday, some parents and students of the CBSE board held placards and posters reportedly staged a protest outside the CBSE Headquarters demanding cancellation of the CBSE board exams of Private, Compartment and Patrachar students. The students even alleged discrimination on part of the Board and demanded promotion just like the rest of the CBSE students.
