Beating all odds, two students from Odisha – one a son of a trolley rickshaw puller and the other a son of farmer – have managed to crack National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) to pursue higher studies in MBBS.

Debasis Barik, who happens to be the son of a farmer from Sambalpur, defied the odds of poverty, pandemic and deprivation and still was able to crack the NEET UG exam 2021.

Debasis secured an All-India Rank of 6,203 in this year’s medical entrance exams, the results of which were declared on Monday. But it wasn’t an easy ride for him. Debasis had decided to discontinue his studies when his father met with an accident and was bed ridden for 2 years.

Fortunately, destiny had other plans for him. The headmaster of the school where Debasis was studying, knew his talent and extended financial support. After this, Debasis never looked back and the focus helped him big in pursuing his dream.

Another success story has grabbed the eyeballs. Murshid Khan, son of Mairaz Khan, a trolley rickshaw puller in Bhadrak secured All-India rank of 15,239 in the NEET exams. Though it was not Murshid’s first attempt, with sheer determination he became the first person in his area to crack the competitive exam.
