Schools in Odisha are seeing a low turnout of students of late. According to government data, turnout in schools is around 70% with rest 30 per cent students are believed to have dropped out.

And in a bid to arrest this trend, the government has initiated steps to bring these absentee students back to school.

Commenting on the matter, the School and Mass Education minister Samir Das on Saturday said that a process has been kick-started to get students back to school.

The Minister said that the teachers have been given a major role in ensuring better turnout in schools.

Earlier on Friday, the School & Mass Education department secretary had shot off a letter to collectors to conduct school-level survey to list out the students who are not coming to school. It had asked to engage junior teachers to motivate the students and their parents to return to school.
