The Commisionerate Police has arrested an MBA graduate on charges of duping several jewellery shop owners in the capital city Bhubaneswar on the pretext of making online payment. The accused Rajiv Prabhas Gupta hails from Mumbai, and was nabbed by a special team of Commissionerate Police from Kolkata.
The incident came to the fore after a complaint was lodged with Tamando Police by a jewellery store owner who was allegedly duped by Gupta. Gupta had allegedly purchased gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 1 lakh from the shop by showing a fake screenshot of UPI payment.
According to the police, the accused initially made a payment of Rs 10 and then showed a fake screenshot of transaction of Rs 1 lakh. When the money did not get transferred to the owner’s account, the accused cited network problem.
Further, he claimed that the money would be transferred as it was already debited from his account. Following an investigation, Gupta was arrested by Police.
