The Chairperson of Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW), Minati Behera, visited the family of the murdered lady teacher, Mamita Meher in Bolangir on Saturday (Oct 23). The Commission Chairperson reportedly reached Bolangir on Friday and visited the Superintendent of Police (SP) to hold discussion regarding the case. As per reports, Behera also inspected the crime scene at Mahaling Stadium in Kalahandi today, where police had found Mamita's body, which was buried after being burned.
An FIR was registered under sections 302, 401, 341, 294, 354, 365, Arms Act and Atrocities Act following a complaint by the wife of the deceased, Dhaneswar Behera.
Acting on the complaint lodged by the grandmother, the local police and members of the Child Protection Unit launched a search operation and rescued the baby. The police have also detained Mallick, who has bought the baby boy.
However, the woman fought back and bit the lips of the accused with her teeth. She bit it so hard that a portion of his lips fell on the ground.
Among the detainees are two assistant conservators of forests (ACFs)- Ghanashyam Muduli and Harekrushna Mallick- and Badamba ranger Subrat Behera. They have been detained at Athagarh police station.
