Delhi Auto Driver Shows Foreign Tourists Real Indian Hospitality Photograph: (Instagram/Kur Keliauja Ugne (screengrab))
Social media frequently amplifies videos of foreign visitors criticising Indian hospitality or urban hygiene. However, travel research and balanced narratives consistently show that such clips present only fragments of a far more complex and welcoming reality. A recent viral video from Delhi offers a refreshing counterpoint, capturing how a humble auto driver, through simple gestures, warmth, and genuine care, won the hearts of foreign tourists and left them with an unforgettable impression of India.

A Chance Meeting That Changed the Journey
An Instagram reel posted by Lithuanian travel vlogger Kur Keliauja Ugnė has quietly captured global attention.
Titled “POV: Travelling around India but I take my tuk-tuk driver everywhere with me”, the video opens at Delhi’s iconic Lotus Temple and soon introduces viewers to Mr Mulchan, an auto driver who unexpectedly became the soul of the tourists’ trip.
From India Gate to Instant Friendship
Ugnė recalled that Mulchan first approached them near India Gate, offering his service with courtesy and without insistence. His respectful demeanour immediately put them at ease. What followed was not just a ride, but a shared experience- filled with light-hearted jokes, spontaneous laughter, and conversations that flowed effortlessly through Delhi’s busy streets.
Discovering the City Together
By the end of the day, the bond had grown strong enough for the tourists to ask Mulchan to accompany them again the next day. During their chat, he revealed something surprising: despite spending years driving across the city, he had never visited several temples or amusement parks himself. Rather than leaving him waiting outside, the tourists invited Mulchan to join them.
The video captures him dancing freely, laughing uncontrollably, and enjoying fair rides like a child- experiencing Delhi beyond the driver’s seat for the very first time.
More Than a Driver
In a follow-up note, Ugnė shared that before returning home, she and her friends met Mulchan once more- this time visiting his family. She explained that Mulchan had gone far beyond his role as a driver. He helped them navigate Delhi’s traffic, protected them from being overcharged, and shared stories that gave them a deeper, more authentic understanding of India.
A Lasting Impression of India
Through this single encounter, Ugnė said she experienced what she called the true hospitality of Indian people. She described India as beautiful, chaotic, and charming, noting that this one connection left a lasting mark on her journey.
