Sanjay Raut, 61, was earlier sent to a four-day ED remand which was extended by three more days till August 8, followed by the two-week long judicial custody granted on Monday.

Pravin had eight parcels of land in Alibaug and a flat registered in the name of Varsha Raut which were attached. The ED had arrested Pravin in connection with the matter.

The ED sought an extended custody for Raut till August 10 as it had secured certain documents and wanted to probe related matters, besides investigating other accused in the case.

While the ED's Special Public Prosecutor Hiten Venegaonkar sought 8 days custody, Raut's lawyer Ashok Mundargi opposed it on various grounds, including the health problems of his client who was a cardiac patient.

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday at 12 a.m. in connection with a prevention of money laundering case pertaining to the Rs 1,034 crore Patra chawl land scam case.

The developments followed Raut skipping two ED summons and then seeking time till August 7 as he was tied up in Parliament-related commitments.

A team of ED along with a posse of police and Central security agency landed at Raut's Bhandup residence at dawn as part of the investigations into the Patra Chawl land scam case.

Raut has been asked to depose at the agency's regional office in Mumbai.

The development comes as the Shiv Sena party battles rebellion from a group of its MLAs, putting a question mark on the future of Maharashtra's Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

Talking to reporters on Wednesday, Raut also wondered whether there was an "underworld connection" to the political row over recitation of Hanuman Chalisa, just like the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

Independent Maharashtra MP Navneet Rana, who is currently lodged in a Mumbai jail facing a number of charges, including sedition, on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Nagpur Police against Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut for allegedly making derogatory remarks against her.

The shock attachments are part of the ED probe into the Rs 1,034-crore Patra Chawl land-scam case in which Raut's friend Pravin Raut was arrested and a charge sheet filed in the matter.
