With the skyrocketing price of potatoes in Odisha, Food & Supplies Minister Krushna Chandra Patra reviewed the situation at a godown in Aiginia, Bhubaneswar. He assured strict action against hoarders and black marketers. The minister blamed the previous BJD government for failing to boost infrastructure and announced an emergency meeting to address the issue.
Odisha's government plans to establish vegetable mandis in every district, including Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, to curb inflation. The initiative aims to eliminate middlemen, ensuring fair prices for consumers and better profits for farmers.
The exorbitant rise in vegetable prices across Odisha is affecting daily life. Consumers find non-veg items relatively cheaper as the cost of vegetables like tomatoes, beans, and brinjals skyrockets.
Onion prices in Odisha have surged from Rs 30 to Rs 40 per kg, exacerbating the financial strain on lower middle-income and economically weaker families. This rise is attributed to a supply shortage caused by heat damage, with expectations of stabilization post-rainfall.
Apart from potatoes, prices of all other vegetables have witnessed a steep price rise.
