Odisha and Andhra Pradesh have identified the same location in Kotia to set up a hydroelectric plant.
There seems to be no end to Kotia dispute. Officials of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh once again confronted each other on Monday over setting up of a hydroelectric project. There has already been border issue between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
It seems the Andhra Pradesh government has chalked out master plans under which it is offering different schemes to lure the villagers. The officials of the neighbouring state have intensified their actions after the Chief Secretary of Odisha, Suresh Mohapatra visited the disputed region to analyse the situation.
Caught between the two states, the residents of Singhajhola, Tanku, Jabada and Turuku village under Kumuganda gram panchayat of Bandhugaon block in Koraput district alleged that the Odisha government does not provide them basic facilities.
A division bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and CT Ravikumar heard the contempt petition (C) No 172/2021 on Wednesday and deferred the hearing until the pronouncement of judgment in another petition filed by Odisha (Diary No. 2175 of 2022).
While the Odisha government medical team was busy treating the villagers, an ambulance with some medical staff from Tonam health centre in Andhra Pradesh’s Salur Mandal reached Phatuseneri village to carry out an inspection of the residents suffering from diarrhoea.
A volunteer employed by the Andhra government was recently seen undertaking a data collecting exercise for the issuance of health cards to residents in Kotia, which has become a bone of contention between Andhra and Odisha.
While voting for the Panchayat polls in Kotia is scheduled to be held on February 18, Koraput Collector has said that elections will be held as usual in all the 13 wards of the Gram Panchayat
