India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has opened up about his recent run of modest scores, clarifying that it should not be viewed as a dip in form. Confident of a turnaround, he said that runs are only a matter of time.
In the third T20I against South Africa on Sunday, which India won by seven wickets, Suryakumar made 12 off 11 deliveries before being dismissed by Lungi Ngidi. The knock extended a prolonged phase of underwhelming returns, with the batter registering 21 low scores in recent outings.
Despite the lean patch, Suryakumar has produced a few notable performances, including a 75 against Bangladesh in Hyderabad on October 24 and an unbeaten 47 versus Pakistan in the Asia Cup in September.
“I’ve been hitting the ball really well in practice. The runs will come when the time is right. I’m not out of form, I’m just out of runs,” Suryakumar said during the post-match presentation.
The latest innings further lowered his T20I average in 2025 to 14.20, with two matches still remaining in the ongoing series against South Africa.

Nevertheless, the Indian skipper was pleased with the team’s response following their defeat in the second T20I.
“This game teaches you a lot. What matters is how you bounce back in a series, and we did that well. We stuck to the basics, repeated what worked for us in Cuttack, and it showed in the result,” he said.
He also highlighted the team’s collective effort, adding, “There were many positives from the match in New Chandigarh. The bowlers had detailed discussions, and we had a very constructive team meeting.”
