Indian spin legend Anil Kumble was full of admiration for Yashasvi Jaiswal, who played a magnificent unbeaten knock of 173 runs on Day 1 of the second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Calling it a 'marathon innings', Kumble said Jaiswal has a golden opportunity to convert it into a triple century on Saturday.
Speaking on JioHotstar’s Amul Cricket Live, Kumble lauded Jaiswal’s temperament and hunger for big scores. “He’s just getting better and better every day. His attitude toward building long innings is outstanding. Once he’s in, he makes it count, and that’s wonderful to see,” the veteran leg spinner said.

Consistency Beyond His Years
Since making his debut against the West Indies two years ago, Jaiswal has emerged as one of India’s most reliable red-ball batters. In just 25 Tests, he has scored over 2000 runs, including seven centuries and 12 fifties. Impressively, five of those seven centuries have been scores of 150 or more, making him only the second player after Graeme Smith to achieve such consistency.
“Jaiswal doesn’t waste opportunities. He knows how to build and dominate once set,” Kumble added.
India in Command on Day 1
At stumps, India stood tall at 318/2, with Sai Sudharsan contributing a stylish 87 and skipper Shubman Gill unbeaten on 20. With Jaiswal still at the crease, India will look to extend their dominance, and all eyes will be on whether the young opener can turn his brilliant innings into a historic triple ton.
